Stacking the Shelves of your ONLINE SHOP
Having bought your website with an online shop ability you are probably wondering how on earth you go about stacking the shelves with your many products. This section uses an example of one of many available online shop programmes and should help guide you through the process.
Firstly, Get Prepared!
This means having all the information you need to hand for easy referencing such as product code, description, colour choices and of course your product images. Your images should be in a web-friendly format such as jpeg or gif and be of suitable size to accompany your text/ fit on your page...
Plan out all the categories you think you will require and list out the products belonging to each, for example:
Category: Gardening,
Products: Chairs, Tables, Heaters.
This can save you a lot of trouble as deleting categories is tricky if you have attached it to anything later...
From this it should be simple enough to decide what Options you will require. These usually include the likes of Colour, Size, Shape, Type, Material etc...
The last step involves assigning the above mentioned Attributes (information) to each product .
STEPS TO STACK YOUR SHELVES:
Steps 1&2:

Choose CATALOG. The following screen appears:

To the left of the screen is a column containing a variety of options including Categories/Products. Choose this. There then appears in the middle of the screen an option to create a new category / product.
Click on the CATEGORY button, you can then fill out the details in the section which auto opens to the right of this button. Press SAVE; when you have filled in the info, you will see a folder icon appears on your screen with the name of the category you have just created. Well done! Create as many as you need.. eg: Gardening, Hardware, Farming etc.

To create products you must first click on the category folder to which they will belong. When you have done this you can then click on the PRODUCTS button. A form appears which you fill out with all the various info applicable to that product. This form includes information such as: Product name, description, Price, Weight (for postage), Image, Stock (in or out of..) and code (product model).
note: you can later edit this input if you need to.

You have now done most of the 'behind the scenes' work...Have a cup of tea!
Step 3:
This part involves the Products Attributes section which is located on the left hand column - Click on CATALOGS, then you will see Products Attributes two lines below. When you click on this you will see your screen appears with a further 3 main areas. These are titled:
Product Options ; Option Values : & Product Attributes.

Product Options:
Type the name of each product option that you will require such as: Size, Colour, Type etc... Note: Create every option that you will need even if only one product will require it. eg: fuel (for the heater but not necessary for chairs, tables etc..)
.
You must click on the INSERT button in order for your additions to take effect.

When you have finished move your attention to the right of this where you will see a similar layout for adding OPTION VALUES:
Here you will add your values to each product ONE_BY_ONE which is time-consuming but necessary, example:
Colour; Red; Insert
Colour; Blue; Insert
Colour; Green; Insert
Fuel Type; Gas; Insert
Fuel Type; Wood-burning; Insert
etc...
A Word of Warning: Keep checking that you have selected the correct product and option as you can easily get mixed up as you move back and forth between selecting and inserting.
Step 4:
Nearly finished. This is where you basically assign all your previously inputted information to your products. Move down to the lower section of the page for the Product Attributes area. A drop down list of your products exist ( automatically created when by you at step 2) from which you choose. The same applies for the Options drop down list (your previous information inputted earlier) and Values drop down list.
IMPORTANT: Note again that you must input this information ONE_BY_ONE for EACH PRODUCT and EACH OPTION .
To view your shop changes go back into your main website online and click into your shop. When you select your categories &/ Products you will see all your updated work. When you click on a product name you will be automatically taken into a screen further detailing the product (info on colour choice etc...). When the client adds this item to their basket a brief description of the product pops up alongside their purchase information.
Well Done! You have successfully stacked your shop shelves.
You may have noticed earlier a box that we skipped over in step 4 above. The screen below will remind you:

This is basically a method by which you can add a supplementary extra charge to the price of an item. For example, Large T-shirt = + €5.00.
To do so, you simply select the product details from the drop down lists and type in the extra cost into the 'value price' box then press INSERT. You can test it out by pretending to be a customer and going online into your store and choosing the 'large t-shirt' or whatever product you assigned that to.
