Error Sending Email
We have had a few reports recently of clients having issues when trying to send emails. Internet Service Providers such as Imagine and Eircom are working on reducing the number of spam email being sent through their mailing systems and the effect is that some of their clients IP addresses are being put on a Blacklist of possible offending sources.

In order to get around this we can suggest the following:

Restart your DSL modem for 30 seconds, and this will reassign you a new IP address that has not been blacklisted and therefore enable you to send mail again.

Eircom ISP clients can send mail through eircom's out going mail server namely:

mail1.eircom.net

(NOTE: turn authentisification to OFF)

Other ISP's will have their own out going mail servers and you will have to contact them for their Outgoing SMTP Mail server.

Waterproofing.ie - Midas Applications
Waterproofing.ie is a new website with a great name. Getting a generic domain name has advantages in search engines these days as Google takes that into consideration in its current algorithm.

Midas Applications had the foresight to register this name and protect their online identity. They then approached us to design and produce a website that would portray their business in the manner in which it is run.

Professionalism throughout.

Disclosure of Company Particulars on your Website
The Minister for Enterprise, Trade & Employment has made regulations to implement the EU “Disclosure Directive”. The Regulations will extend the requirements of 1973 Regulations in relation to disclosure of a company’s particulars on its letterheads and order forms to electronic communications and websites with effect from 1 April 2007. Failure to display the requisite information on business letters, electronic communications and websites will constitute a criminal offence subject to a maximum fine of €2,000 and clients should take immediate steps to ensure they are compliant with the Regulations by 1 April 2007.

The particulars which must be displayed by a company on its business letters and order forms, electronic communications and websites are not identical and so for convenience, we have set out in the tables below the information which a company needs to include in each of these mediums.

Although the disclosure obligations on their face appear quite straightforward, unfortunately neither the Regulations, the EU Directive which it implemented nor the guidance issued by the Director of Corporate Enforcement address many of the practical questions faced by companies (particularly where they are a member of a larger group) endeavouring to ensure compliance with the Regulations. Indeed the position prior to introduction of the 2007 Regulations was far from clear – the term “order forms” is not as self explanatory in the current technological era as it might have been in 1973 when the disclosure obligation was first introduced in Ireland.

The Director of Corporate Enforcement will oversee compliance with the Regulations and we believe that his office will take a reasonable approach to compliance. Our recommendations in relation to some of the common queries posed are set out below:

DO I NEED TO INCLUDE ALL THE COMPANY’S DETAILS IN THE BODY OF EACH EMAIL ISSUED BY MY COMPANY?

Yes – if your company is a limited Irish company you need to include all the details mentioned in the first table above. Bear in mind however that details of the directors do not need to be included on emails, and so, unless the company is exempt from using the word “limited” in its name, or is in the process of winding up, it should not be overly difficult to include all of the requisite details on the standard footer of an email to ensure it is issued automatically on all its electronic communications from the company.

IF I ISSUE EMAILS FROM ONE EMAIL ADDRESS ON BEHALF OF A NUMBER OF COMPANIES WITHIN A GROUP HOW CAN I ENSURE COMPLIANCE WITH THE REGULATIONS?

We recommend that the requisite details in respect of each limited company incorporated in the EU within the group are included in the footer to your email. Best practice would also be for the signatory to the email to identify in their signature block which company or companies a specific email is emanating from. This recommendation may mean that in practice the footer attaching to emails emanating from one organisation will not be identical.

IS IT SUFFICIENT TO INCLUDE A LINK TO THE INFORMATION REQUIRED TO BE INCLUDED AT THE END OF EACH EMAIL?

No. We would recommend that the full information is apparent from the face of the email received externally.

IF MY COMPANY’S WEBSITE IS HOSTED BY ANOTHER COMPANY IN THE GROUP IS IT NECESSARY TO INCLUDE MY COMPANY’S DETAILS ON THE WEBSITE?

Yes – if the website purports to include details of your company and if your company’s clients can communicate with you or conduct services with your company via your website, all the details specified in the grid above must be included on the website.

Registering a Domain name yourself - Good or Bad Idea
We want to let people know that "yes" they can register a domain name online in the states for next to nothing, but be aware that their are often hidden costs involved. Otherwise know as "Administration Fees".

The cost of telephone calls to the United States should also be factored into the overall cost and also the time difference too.

If a price looks too good to be true its because it is. Don't be fooled into thinking your getting a great deal, you are NOT.

It will actually cost you more in the long run.

One example of a poor domain name registration service is www.namesecure.com . They like so many others moved away from telephone support to email only, fine as long as its not an email issue !!!

Anyways you have been warned. Just pick up the phone and ask us, We are the ones who can give you options in registration, domain extensions etc and all at a local level.

This was not a rant !!!, We just find ourselves explaining the process of registration to people when they ring up after they get in trouble when registering domain names abroad. sad
